Characterizing Intake & Eating Behaviors Among Individuals Prescribed GLP-1 Medications
At IAFNS, we advance nutrition science through rigorous research, collaboration, and evidence-based guidance.
GLP-1 Medications and Eating Behaviors
Medications which leverage the potent anorexigenic effects of the incretin hormone glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) represent a highly promising treatment modality for obesity. However, little is known about the eating behaviors or nutrient needs of free-living individuals taking these medications.
Purpose of the Study
The purpose of this observational study is to characterize the eating behaviors and preferences of these individuals to help inform dietary counseling and future approaches to meeting the specific dietary needs of this population.
What Investigators Will Measure
- Changes in free-living dietary patterns
- Types and amounts of foods and beverages consumed
- Differences in eating behaviors prior to and during GLP-1 treatment
- Liking and preference for different foods and tastes
- Other dimensions of eating behaviors in response to treatment
