IAFNS Emerging Leaders Award

As an organization we drive, fund and lead actionable science to advance food and nutrition science in support of public health.

We are establishing an IAFNS Emerging Leaders Award to promote excellence in the food safety and nutritional sciences as evidenced by research, leadership, initiative, collaboration, and communication. There are two awards, one for food safety and one for nutritional science.

These awards are to recognize early career scientists less than 10 years since the completion of their academic training.

Who will the award be given to?

An individual who has advanced their field in an important way. This may include, but is not limited to:

Research or other activities in basic and applied food safety or nutrition science
Participation in novel initiatives that advance science to include public/private partnerships
Scientific communication and stakeholder engagement
Translational potential of the research

The recipient of the awards will be selected based on merit by the IAFNS Award Committee designated by the IAFNS Board of Trustees.

What do the recipients receive?

Qualifications for Nominees

Employment in academia, industry or government with a primary role as a research in the area of food safety or nutritional sciences.
- This award is intended for U.S. or Canada based researchers

The nominee, by January 1, 2025, must have received his/her highest graduate degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in a related field within the previous ten years. Post-doctoral positions are exempted.
Previous recipients of the Award are not eligible for this award.

IAFNS reserves the right to revise and refine the award on an annual basis.

IAFNS reserves the right to not provide an award in a given year.

Nomination Requirements

Self nomination for this award is required.

Nominees need to submit:

Cover Letter: The letter needs to detail name, position and affiliation of nominee. (Limit 1 page)
Research Highlights and Contributions: Provide a written summary of the primary research focus and contributions to food safety or nutritional sciences. (Limit 3 pages)
CV or Resume: Provide summary of the nominee’s publications, research grants and contracts, patents, research awards, and any other documentation of the nominee’s promise and excellence in food safety/nutritional science research. (Limit 10 pages)
Letters of Support: Provide no more than two letters of support from professional colleagues. (Limit 2 pages per letter)
