Low & No Calorie Sweetener 2025 Webinar Series

Three-Part Research Series

Advancing LNCS Research Through a Three-Part Webinar Series and Publication

IAFNS' Low & No Calorie Sweetener (LNCS) Committee hosted a 3-part webinar series to present new evidence from three large consortium projects. The projects focused on the effects of LNCS and include: Sweet Project: Developing evidence on the long-term effect of sweeteners on health;  Switch: Studying the effects of non-nutritive sweetened beverages on appetite during active weight loss; and Sweet Tooth: A trial looking at the effect of sweet exposure on sweet taste preference, intake and other biomarkers of health.

Following the series, IAFNS hosted an invitation-only dialogue on October 2 with the speakers to discuss opportunities for future research.

The new data and information from the webinar series and consortium studies will be summarized in a paper to be submitted to a special addition of the journal Nutrients entitled "Advances in Sweeteners and Human Health: Metabolic, Molecular, and Epidemiological Perspectives on Safety, Efficacy, and Public Health Impact."

IAFNS is a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Each individual webinar in the series awards 1 or more Continuing Professional Education Unit (CPEU) in accordance with the Commission on Dietetic Registration’s CPEU Prior Approval Program.

The Low- and No-Calorie Sweeteners Committee seeks to develop and communicate the science related to how the consumption of LNCSs can contribute to overall health and wellness. This includes the role of LNCSs in taste perception and food choices. See recent publications and upcoming events to learn more about the committee’s work.
