A Partnership for Public Health: USDA Branded Food Products Database

The USDA Branded Food Products Database includes the following information for over 200,000 food products:

Product name and generic description
Serving size and servings per package
Nutrients shown on the Nutrition Facts Panel or the Expanded Nutrition Facts Panel
Weights and measures
Ingredient list and sub-list
A date stamp associated with current formulation of the branded or store brand food product

Fortification Database

This database estimates levels of intrinsic, fortified, and enriched nutrients for foods reported consumed in 2009-2010 and 2011-2012 releases of the NHANES and What We Eat In America (WWEIA). Fortification nutrients of interest for the database are vitamins A, C, D, E, B6 and B12, and folate, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, iron, zinc, calcium, magnesium and potassium. For each food identified as a fortified or enriched item, values for the applicable intrinsic, fortification and enrichment nutrient components per 100g food were estimated.

Metal Dietary Exposure Screening Tool (MDEST)

This tool is designed to be used by risk assessors/managers to rapidly evaluate potential public health risk when confronted with the detection of select heavy metals in foods and food ingredients. The MDEST is composed of three key elements of a dietary risk assessment: 1) hazard characterization, 2) dietary exposure assessment and 3) risk characterization

Data Sharing to Improve Food Safety Capacity Building

UMD-JIFSAN, Structured Partnerships, and IAFNS are collaborating to establish a new Public-Private Partnership focused on Data Sharing to Improve Food Safety Capacity Building.

This Public-Private Partnership, focused on enhancing global health by reducing the risk of FBDs through improved implementation of food safety capacity building measures along entire food production and distribution chains via the development of an international data sharing platform – would bring together and benefit government, industry, the scientific community, and the general public.

Systematic Review Data Repository

The following IAFNS projects are posted on the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's (AHRQ) Systematic Review Data Repository (SRDR). This data repository provides public access to the raw data associated with these published projects. The tool improves effieciency, quality, transparency, and usability of systematic review data.

Systematic review of the potential adverse effects of caffeine consumption in healthy adults, pregnant women, adolescents, and children

This Systematic Review looked at five adverse health outcomes associated with caffeine consumption and over 2 dozen specific endpoints related to caffeine. The data related to the review of each endpoint listed below is freely accessible.

Dietary Fiber Database - Version 3.1

The creation of this database had five objectives:

1. Systematically compile and provide access to primary, English-language, peer-reviewed science linking dietary fiber intake in humans to one or more of 10 potential health benefits

2. Provide researchers with a tool to understand how different fibers are characterized in studies

3. Facilitate researchers in identifying gaps in the current research

4. Create a database to serve as a starting foundation of primary human literature for conducting evidence-based reviews and meta-analyses

5. Efficiently assist researchers in identifying fibers of interest.

Low-Calorie Sweeteners and Health: An Evidence Map Database

This LCS evidence map is a database that collects the features and characteristics of the LCS studies. The LCS database includes data on study design (study design and duration), population (baseline health status, age, sample size, anthropometrics), intervention/comparison (type of LCS, comparisons or control groups, numbers of people analyzed, forms of administration), and outcomes/study endpoint.
