Abstract: This review article discusses the scientific literature on hydration in healthy adults. The topics include measuring hydration status; consumption data; requirements and recommendations for daily fluid intake; and sources of water. Of particular interest is the emerging relationship between optimal fluid intake and disease prevention. To fill the gaps in hydration knowledge, recommendations to meet future research challenges are also presented.
