Abstract: On November 15 and 16, 2011, the International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI) North America Hydration Committee organized a second international conference on hydration and health in Miami Beach, Florida. (A first conference on hydration and health promotion was held in November 2006.) The 2011 conference featured experts in the field of hydration from the United States, Europe, and Asia, and attracted attendees from government, industry, professional organizations, and academia. The conference reviewed the available science on hydration and related health issues, highlighting new and recent research. The conference also provided a scientific discussion of the compilation of data on fluid intake as it relates to health, well-being, disease, and human performance. The meeting format featured formal presentations with discussion, and panel sessions that considered future steps and recommendations.
