Technical Workshop on Probabilistic Exposure Assessment
Washington, DC, United States
November 9, 2023
IAFNS offices

Despite significant advances in risk assessments of foods and ingredients, exposure assessments tend to rely on deterministic approaches utilizing very conservative inputs. Deterministic assessments are easy to conduct and interpret; however, as point estimates of exposure, they do not account for variability in the level and/or likelihood of occurrence of a chemical/contaminant or population differences in exposure inputs. Probabilistic assessments can further refine deterministic assessments using distributions for various exposure inputs and, as such, better account for exposure variability and uncertainty. This invitation-only workshop, directed primarily at regulators and risk assessors, will present results of an IAFNS-funded project on modeling probabilistic exposure assessments (PEA). The workshop will include rationales for investing in PEA, transition from deterministic to probabilistic assessments, and a hands-on training session. Future sessions on PAE will be open to the public. For more info contact nsaab@iafns.org
